Everyone knew her business and had something to say, but no one was honest with her. Then Jesus came along. He didn’t beat around the bush. He didn’t pretend it wasn’t happening.
He lovingly told her the truth: You’ve had five husbands, and the guy you’re with isn’t your husband. He recognized her pain, He acknowledged her past marriage. But He also shared a truth that could change her life. That kind of honesty is hard to find these days. We’re told to live our truth instead of facing THE truth. People praise doing what feels good instead of what IS good. We avoid tough talks to be tolerant.
But real love isn’t afraid of truth. It speaks it, even when it’s not easy. That’s what Sychar is. It’s a place where Jesus accepts us as we are but cares too much to leave us there.
