A former adult film star (Bree Solstad) has decided to exit the industry after experiencing a profound spiritual transformation, stating, “God does not want me to be involved in the production of pornography.” This significant shift in her life reflects a deep personal conviction and a desire to align her actions with her newfound faith. The individual has expressed that her journey towards Christianity has led her to reevaluate her past choices and seek a path that resonates more closely with her beliefs and values.

Bree Solstad described herself as having been “self-centered,” prioritizing her professional ambitions and seeking personal enjoyment in life before her spiritual transformation, which led her to embrace Christianity and become a member of the Catholic Church.

She expressed “I had a deep concern for my loved ones, and occasionally I would reach out to God, primarily when I needed something. It felt like a one-sided relationship.” Solstad’s narrative is particularly striking given her past in the adult film industry, a path she chose to leave behind upon discovering her faith. Before her involvement in pornography, she described a life devoid of purpose, marked by excessive drinking, reckless behavior, and promiscuity.

This tumultuous phase of her life created an environment that seemed almost predestined for her entry into such a controversial field. “I was stuck in unfulfilling jobs, and nothing truly mattered to me,” Solstad recounted. “I found myself in a situation where a woman suggested I would excel in her line of work, which was pornography.” At that moment, the choice to enter the industry appeared straightforward, as she felt no internal or external constraints to deter her. “There was no one in my life who advised me against it,” she reflected. “Some friends distanced themselves because of my choices, but that only fueled my sense of defiance, making me think, ‘How dare you judge me?'”

Watch her tell her story:

Solstad immersed herself in the adult film industry, quickly gaining financial success and public recognition, which she initially interpreted as a sign of having achieved her goals. However, this façade of success eventually began to unravel. Reflecting on her decade-long career, she expressed a profound sense of entrapment, stating, “After so many years in this field, I found myself questioning what my next steps could be.” Many performers in similar situations grapple with the daunting task of reconciling their past when pursuing conventional job opportunities, often feeling overwhelmed by the need to obscure their history. Solstad articulated this struggle, pondering, “What can I possibly include on my resume after dedicating a decade to this?” She also acknowledged the psychological toll of her experiences, admitting that prolonged involvement in the industry led her to doubt her capabilities and self-worth beyond that identity.

Ultimately, Solstad reached a pivotal moment in her life three years ago, marked by a traumatic event she described as the most challenging experience she had ever faced. Although she refrained from sharing the details, she conveyed the profound impact it had on her. “I vividly recall collapsing to my knees, praying fervently, my knuckles turning white as I pleaded with God, ‘Please, don’t let this happen. Make it all better. Reverse time,’” she recounted. This moment of desperation was followed by a period of anger towards God, which lingered for an extended time. It wasn’t until she visited Italy about a year ago, where she immersed herself in the rich art and beauty of the surroundings, including the majestic church architecture, that she began to find solace and a renewed perspective on her life.

That experience profoundly transformed her perspective.

“Within the confines of these ancient churches and basilicas, I felt a shift within myself,” she reflected, emphasizing how the depiction of Jesus on the cross resonated with her. “I began to appreciate the artistry not merely for its aesthetic appeal, but I started contemplating the theological significance and the various roles individuals play within that narrative.” From the crucifix to the figure of Mary, the mother of Jesus, Solstad found herself increasingly drawn in. As time went on, she embraced Catholicism and immersed herself in her newfound faith.

However, her struggle with the pornography industry was far from over.

“I was still involved in producing pornography at that time, and I distinctly remember a homily that addressed the moral implications of pornography,” Solstad recounted. “It was an uncomfortable moment; I wanted to disappear into the pew. Yet, it prompted me to reflect deeply on my own life.” Eventually, she became repulsed by her career choice, realizing how detrimental it was to herself and others. Solstad understood that God did not plan for her to continue this sinful path.

“God doesn’t want me producing pornography,” she recalled coming to terms with this truth.

The transition was challenging, filled with uncertainty about her financial future without her current job. Nevertheless, she recognized the necessity of leaving the adult industry behind. “That was a bit daunting, but I was determined to seek change,” Solstad expressed. “I craved a deeper connection with God and wanted to distance myself from the negativity.”

Her journey has already inspired numerous individuals, both those entrenched in the porn industry and those seeking to break free from consuming adult content. The testimonies of transformation and newfound faith she has encountered have been nothing short of “incredible.”
